Frank Van Hiel
Frank Van Hiel (born in 1980) lives and works in Ghent. His paintings on wood and paper explore geometric abstraction through distinctive shapes, clean lines, and carefully considered textures. Van Hiel works with multiple media within each composition, deep black acrylics, graphite, vinyl, and lacquer - creating a subtle interplay of materials that gives depth and variation to his works. The precision of his geometric forms is balanced by traces of the artist’s hand: visible brushstrokes, pencil marks, and textured backgrounds bring warmth and tactility to his minimalist compositions. Negative space becomes a space of dialogue, where form, color, and texture interact, transforming austerity into quiet poetry. Recent solo exhibitions took place at Rossicontemporary, Brussels (2025, 2023, 2020), at Art Brussels (2023) and at Galerie De Ziener, Asse (2021).
