John Van Oers (born in 1967) lives and works in Antwerp. Working with bronze, plaster, wood, cardboard, and found materials, Van Oers creates sculptures and installations that engage directly with the surrounding space. His works range from small-scale objects to architectural-scale models, combining precise execution with humor, wit, and a light-hearted approach. Drawing on everyday objects and fragments of childhood memory, Van Oers balances recognizable forms with abstract and non-figurative elements, creating a dialogue between personal narrative and universal experience. His sculptures act as stylized autobiographies, inviting viewers to connect their own memories and imaginings with his work. His work has been shown in many galleries in Belgium and abroad, and in art fairs such as Art Brussels, Art Antwerp and Art Rotterdam. Van Oers has also integrated monumental sculptures into public spaces, including “TOP” (2024, Mini golf Beatrijs, Antwerp), “House on Basement” (2018, Herzeele) and “90° Overturn” (2015, WCZ Sint-Isabella, Arendonk).

John Van Oers, né en 1967, vit et travaille à Anvers. Travaillant le bronze, le plâtre, le bois, le carton et les matériaux trouvés, Van Oers crée des maquettes architecturales combinant précision avec humour et légèreté. S’inspirant d’objets quotidiens et de fragments de mémoire d’enfance, Van Oers équilibre formes reconnaissables et éléments abstraits ou non figuratifs, créant un dialogue entre récit personnel et expérience universelle. Ses sculptures agissent comme des autobiographies stylisées, invitant le spectateur à relier ses propres souvenirs et son imaginaire à son travail. Son œuvre a été largement présentée en galeries en Belgique et à l’étranger, ainsi qu’à des foires d’art telles que Art Brussels, Art Antwerp et Art Rotterdam.
