Lore STESSEL

EN

Lore Stessel, born in 1987, lives and works in Brussels. Her practice investigates the intersection of movement, time, and materiality, with dance serving as a recurring source of inspiration. Since 2013, Stessel has collaborated closely with dancers, capturing fleeting gestures through photography and translating them into manipulated gelatin-silver emulsions on canvas. The resulting works explore the abstraction of movement, where body, landscape, and medium intertwine to create compositions charged with rhythm, tension, and spatial awareness. Her technique emphasizes both labor and spontaneity—brushstrokes, dust, and cropping testify to the act of creation while preserving the ephemeral energy of movement. Stessel’s solo exhibitions include “Choreography of Stillness” (2024–2025) at Rossicontemporary, Brussels and L’Arsenal, Metz; “Slow Fusion” (2020) at Rossicontemporary, Brussels; “Wave” (2023) at Les Filles du Calvaire, Paris; and “Concrete Body” (2022) at Concertgebouw, Brugge. Her work has been presented in art fairs such as Paris Photo (2024) and ArtBrussels.
