P.B. Van Rossem

P.B. Van Rossem (born in 1953) lives and works near Brussels. Over decades, Van Rossem has developed a singular abstract vocabulary characterized by meticulous geometric constructions, intricate layering, and a rhythmic interplay of color, form, and texture. His work draws inspiration from everyday observation, humanism, science, poetry, and music, ranging from jazz and world music to Bach and Scarlatti, influencing both the tempo and atmosphere of his compositions. Van Rossem works primarily on panels of varying formats, embracing the imperfections of his supports - using found supports such as discarded wood, cardboard, formica - as integral to the artwork’s final composition. He paints, draws, collages, assembles, and carves with painstaking precision, balancing formal rigor with an openness to chance.
