Emmanuel Tête

French artist, Emmanuel Tête (born in 1973) lives and works in Brussels. Tête’s practice encompasses painting, drawing with pastel or colored pencil, collage, and performance, exploring the boundary between dream and reality with humor, poetry, and a subtle sense of the absurd. His work presents figures suspended in gardens, interiors, or imaginary spaces, caught in a moment of heightened action where tension and stillness coexist. Through these meticulously composed drawings and paintings, Tête creates narratives that are simultaneously playful, enigmatic, and meditative, evoking both classical references - from the chaos of Dada, the dreamlike tension of Surrealism, and the compositional rigor of Trecento and Renaissance masters - and contemporary reflections on human existence. Recent solo exhibitions include “Des nouvelles du royaume” (2024) and “Dans la peau du déluge” (2022) at Rossicontemporary, Brussels; “Poussières” (2019) at Rossicontemporary and Orangerie, Bastogne; and “New Drawings” (2018) at Art Brussels.
