François Jacob
François Jacob lives and works in Brussels. His paintings unfold in a closed yet unfinished universe, staging the human condition through a delicate tension between truth and illusion. Drawing on the languages of theatre, carnival, and circus, his work positions isolated figures in liminal spaces, where gestures are suspended and light punctuates what remains hidden. Color is meticulously modulated, subdued, broken, and layered. Jacob has presented solo exhibitions including “Rhegma” (Rossicontemporary, Brussels, 2024), “Là où personne ne t’attend” (Rehbein Galerie, Köln, 2022), and “Caput Mortuum” (Rossicontemporary, Brussels, 2021), and participated in group shows such as “Menschenbilder” (Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg, 2021) and in art fairs such as Art Düsseldorf, Art Brussels, Art on Paper. Winner of the Prix Jos Albert (2019) and the Prix Jeune Artiste of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (2015), his work explores the delicate interplay of presence and absence, offering images that invite the viewer to enter a suspended, contemplative space.
